Our History

Farming has always been in my family and in my blood.  My great grandfather, grandfather and father all farmed.  I was raised on a small row crop and hog farm near the metropolitan town of Bush City, Ks.  My wife Stephanie is also from a farming family, her grandfather and father running cattle.  We both attended Kansas State University, myself majoring in Animal Science and my wife eventually transferring to Pitt State to gain her elementary ed degree.  Not long after graduation, we bought our first commercial cows and S bar Z Farms was started.  We ran commercial cows with various purebred bulls until the spring of 2013.  It was then that we were introduced to the Black Hereford breed from a publication in a local sale catalog.  That is when we bought our first registered bull to run on our commercial cows.  We loved the calves produced enough that we went out and purchased a group of Registered Herefords to A.I. back to Registered Black Hereford bulls and S bar Z Black Herefords was born.  Our first registered ranch born calves hit the ground the spring of 2017.
